VICTORY PRIMARY SCHOOL
HALL AND COMMUNITY CENTRE

The brief from the Victory Primary School Principal was to create a ("non-boring!") multipurpose facility that would cater for the school's needs and act as a hub for the Victory area community, home to Nelson's most diverse multicultural population.

The design is based around a main hall orientated so as to open up onto, and create a boundary to, the playground, with curved ancillary arms reaching around the northern end and opening up a welcoming main foyer to the community.

The ancillary arms each side of the main foyer contain a meeting room, 4 multipurpose offices, kitchen, a small community medical centre and as well as toilets and storage rooms. All spaces are vented passively.

Forms and exterior colours were chosen to create a strong individual identity for the centre, setting it apart from the existing school buildings.
