MURRAY HOUSE
NELSON

This little house was designed with "growing old comfortably" in mind. Built on a steep site it is all on one level. The front of the house and deck are supported on steel columns, two columns coming through the deck to support the roof overhang. The single pitch roof forms minimise the impact of the building when viewed from above and below while at the same time creating interesting angles against the magnificent backdrop. Large windows and the use of lightweight materials combine to give an overall effect of lightness to the design whilst maximising the views across Nelson and Tasman Bay to the mountains beyond.
