MAPUA HOUSE

This is a house for some UK based clients with a strong passion for low energy design and living.

The house is designed around a central "thermal core"- A double height dining space with exposed concrete walls and polished concrete floor. A number of other rooms including upstairs bedroom and study look down into this space. Passive solar design is inherent in the concept along with features such as an underground ventilation system that passively siphons air from further down the site, cools it as it travels through the underground pipes and then vents out through the concrete floor in several key places. Hot air is vented through a thermostatically controlled rotating roof cowl at the apex of the roof structure above the central core.

All materials have been chosen based on their thermal properties and sustainability.

The lighting will be locally designed and made LED (light emitting diode) lights.

The floor will be heated by way of solar heated hot water.
